Band Camp

Band Camp: Save a Clean, White Shirt

On Thursday, I posted a newsfeed message detailing the black socks and shoes that your student will need for the WSU football game on the last day of band camp- Thursday, August 27th.

My plan is to have my daughter store her shoes/socks in a bag inside her band locker. I've heard other parents plan to stop by the school during the dinner break layover on Thursday and hand over the socks & shoes then.

PLEASE ADD A CLEAN WHITE TEE SHIRT TO THE BAG. This is what they will wear underneath their uniform for the game.

It does not have to be an LOMB practice tee but it should be clean, white, and fairly free of printing or large logos. Remember that the kids do remove their jackets in the heat, so let's keep that shirt as plain as possible.

By the way: If you have the 2013 practice shirt, that one is perfect for this game. The design is low and on the side so the bibbers will hide the logo entirely.

Band Camp: Remind Text Notifications

Don't forget to subscribe to Mr. Steele's text notification service.

This will insure that you're kept up-to-date about bus return times.

VERY important for both the Band Camp/WSU day on August 27th and again for the late returning bus from BOA at Bowling Green on September 26.

You can subscribe to either text or email notifications, or both!

If you're unsure about your subscription status, go ahead and subscribe again. You won't get double or triple the messages, it'll simply thank you for updating your status.

Band Camp: Water Jug REQUIRED

Water Jug Warning:

All students must bring their water jugs to band camp. This item is so important that we check for it twice before they leave.

Do NOT pack the jug in your student's luggage or sleeping gear.

At the check-in table, your student will need to show the volunteer their water jug BEFORE they receive their name tag.

Then at the bus, no student is allowed to board the bus unless they are physically holding their jug.

Students: Photographic proof that your jug is stored in your sleeping bag will not work. Nor will a signed and notarized affidavit from your family lawyer. If you pack it in your baggage, you will be asked to dig through the luggage until you find it.

This happens every year, someone packs their jug. Or they leave it on the kitchen counter.

Let's make this the year that goes smoothly. Pleeeeeease?

Band Camp: Black Socks, Black Shoes

WARNING: NEW THIS YEAR

Due to the football game at Wayne State University on August 27th, you'll need to do a little thinking ahead.

On the final day of camp (27th) departure buses will head to LOHS for about a 1 hour layover, just enough time to feed the kids dinner and dress for the football game. Then buses will depart for WSU.

Students will not have time to go home for black socks and shoes.

So next week, you have three options:

  1. have your student stash their socks and shoes in their band locker
  2. send the shoes and socks with your student to band camp
  3. make plans to meet the bus at LOHS during the dinner layover on Aug 27th.

STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PERFORM AT WAYNE STATE WITHOUT BLACK SOCKS AND SHOES. This could be a problem if you plan on meeting them for the layover and you miss the connection.

And psssstttt... if you decide to send the socks/shoes to band camp with your student, be very clear that practicing at camp in black shoes is very unwise. Their shoes will be incredibly dusty and dirty if they wear them at camp.

Band Camp: DO NOT Drop & Run

Band Camp check-in is August 22 at 8:00am

The buses will depart before 9am.

YOU MUST ESCORT YOUR STUDENT THROUGH THE CHECK IN PROCESS. DO NOT DROP & RUN. PARENTS NOT PRESENT FOR CHECK-IN WILL BE CALLED AND ASKED TO RETURN TO LOHS.

This is pretty important. We need you there for the check in process. Sometimes a student will have incomplete paperwork, sometimes they're missing an important item. You're surrendering your student to the band for a week long trip, 4 hours away. We want to make sure everything is in order before we leave.
