Volunteering
What is Volunteering?
Parent volunteers, often organized through our Band Boosters and leads, are essential for handling the significant logistical and fundraising needs that fall outside of the band director's responsibilities. This support allows the students to focus on their performance, and it also helps bring in much needed funds to support your students program.
Examples of Volunteer Roles
Logistical support
Chaperone: Ride the bus with students to games and competitions to help supervise and ensure their safety. This often requires standing for long periods and assisting with water distribution.
Pit/Prop crew: Move large instruments and props on and off the field quickly during performances. This is one of the most physically demanding volunteer roles.
Equipment/Truck driver: Drive trucks and trailers used to transport instruments, uniforms, and equipment to away events.
Water/food coordinator: Organize and serve meals and snacks for students during band camp, long practices, and competitions. This can include coordinating volunteers and picking up food donations or feeding the band during competitions/football games.
A Sign-up Genius will be sent out to coordinate what is needed for food/help for each event.
Uniform and Appearance
Uniform fitting/care: Help measure students and fit them with their uniforms at the beginning of the season. Here at Lake Orion, we have two different types of uniforms, Competition and Football. Each will need to be fitted and adjusted accordingly. At performances, assist students with uniform adjustments and inspect them to ensure a clean, consistent look.
Laundry crew: The washing and maintenance of uniforms to keep them in good condition throughout the season. We will call on volunteers to wash uniforms periodically throughout the season.
Fundraising
313 Events/Concession stand: Staff the concession stands during home football games & 313 Events, with proceeds benefiting the band program. This role involves preparing food, serving alcohol (at 313 events only) serving customers, and handling money/credit card machines.
Event hosting: Help the Band Boosters host band competitions or expositions. This can involve selling tickets, 50/50, providing hospitality for visiting bands, band guides, parking lot assistants, timekeepers and more!
Charity Poker Events:
Media
Photographer/videographer: Capture photos and videos of the band's performances, rehearsals, and other activities for use on social media, websites, and end-of-year slideshows.
